TIME is back with a new prison, inmates and cast, but the grim institution you see on screen isn’t quite what it seems.
Series 3 is set inside the fictional HMYOI Alderwick, a housing teenage boys.

Where was Time series 3 filmed?
was filmed in and other parts of , with production beginning in March 2026.
Some of the scenes were shot at Crumlin Road Gaol, formerly HMP Belfast.
The historic jail first opened to prisoners in 1846 and closed in 1996 before later reopening as a visitor attraction.
Siobhan Finneran told Radio Times that filming there was “oppressive”, adding: “Crumlin Road Gaol is freezing, one of the coldest places I’ve been in my life – and I’ve worked in Iceland!.
“You’re burning energy just to stay warm.
“At one point we were in the green room, in warm coats, sipping tea, thinking, ‘Young kids get locked away here for long periods, then people wonder why they kick off when they get out?'”
While , who , said: “It’s a very emotive place.
“We made part of the prison look like a contemporary young offender institution, based on the bones of the building, then we’d escape upstairs between takes where you’re seeing the actual cells people were in for a long time.
“They saw a lot of fairly serious prisoners, so the history is in the walls.
“It’s a necessary part of a civilised society, I suppose, but what does that do to the human beings that are incarcerated?
“I’m not saying they don’t deserve to be there, but it’s an extraordinary thing that we do to each other.
“When you stand inside one of those cells and imagine that door being locked for days, months, years, it’s a hard thing to reconcile yourself with.”
Crumlin Road Gaol was only one of the locations used to create HMYOI Alderwick.

A former school in Downpatrick, south of Belfast, was transformed into several areas of the fictional institution.
The production also filmed at HMP Hydebank Wood, an active young offender centre in south Belfast.
So the prison viewers see is effectively a patchwork of several different places.
The team worked with retired prison officers and former governors to make procedures inside HMYOI Alderwick as authentic as possible.
Where were Time series 1 and 2 filmed?
The first two series were filmed mainly in and around .
, starring , used the former HM Prison Shrewsbury for the wings and cells of fictional HMP Craigmore.
Other scenes were shot across the Liverpool City Region, including the Mersey Gateway and Silver Jubilee bridges, Southport Pier and Mount Pleasant Car Park.
For series two, starring , Bella Ramsey and Tamara Lawrance, production returned to the Liverpool region.
Filming took place across Liverpool, Halton, St Helens, Wirral and Knowsley, while exterior prison shots were filmed in Wales.
Unlike series one, the interior of the women’s prison was largely constructed as a set.
Director Andrea Harkin explained that the production team could not find a suitable real building to film inside, despite visiting women’s prisons while researching the series.
