Reijnders, who arrived for big money from AC Milan this summer, had an extra ‘I’ crammed into his name on his shirt, with the back of his top reading ‘Reijinders’.

Fans watching from home spotted the error as they watched Pep Guardiola ‘s side put the finishing touches to their preparations ahead of the Premier League’s return next week.

Although some supporters had sympathy for the mistake, claiming they too are struggling to learn the Dutchman’s name.

On social media, one wrote: “Not even going to call out the club for spelling Reijnders wrong on the back of his shirt, I’d be making the same mistake.”

While another added: “I saw this and thought I’d been spelling his name wrong the whole time.”

And a third joked: “Reijnders will be something special for us this season.

“With any luck they can get his name spelt right on his shirt sometime soon.”

Reijnders impressed during the 3-0 victory over Palermo, netting twice during a 45-minute cameo from the bench.

While he almost put a cherry on top of his performance with a hat-trick goal, rounding Palermo goalkeeper Alfred Gomis with some stunning footwork, only to lose his balance and slip over with the goal at his mercy.
