Incident Overview

The victims were taking a lunchtime walk when Kathryn was forcibly pulled to the ground by her hair.

When Daniel stepped in to assist his friend, he was spat at and insulted with a homophobic slur by Egan and McNamara.

The two mothers later falsely claimed they were being “mocked” before launching their attack in broad daylight.

Court Proceedings

Egan pleaded guilty to assault and threatening behavior at Warrington Magistrates Court.

The justices learned that she has a criminal record with 50 offenses dating back to 2005, which includes 21 prior assault charges and six public order offenses.

In 2024, Egan, who relies on state benefits, was convicted of two counts of assault against an emergency worker.

Despite her extensive criminal history, Egan received a ten-week prison sentence, which was suspended for a year.

Mother-of-two McNamara was given a 12-month community order after admitting to assault and threatening behavior.

Victims' Experience

The court was informed that the attack occurred on April 24 at 1 PM while Kathryn was walking her dog.

She described the two women as “very intoxicated” and recalled hearing them say, “You don’t confront a lone female.”

Kathryn attempted to walk around Egan and McNamara to avoid confrontation and began chatting with Daniel and another friend after encountering them.

She told police, “I started laughing at something that was said—then one of the women said, ‘Do not laugh at me.’ We continued walking, but they followed us.”

“The woman in white then pushed me in the chest. I thought they were trying to provoke us into a fight. The woman in blue called Dan a f****t.”

“We all tried to walk away, but they kept pushing us.”

“The woman in white lunged at us and grabbed my hair. I managed to get her off, but the woman in blue spat in my face and also spat at Daniel.”

“He was trying to stand his ground. They effectively harassed him.”

Footage shown in court revealed the attackers following and verbally abusing the victims.

Sentencing

Angela Blackmore, the prosecutor, stated, “Officers arrived shortly after the incident and witnessed both defendants yelling at Daniel Holmes.”

“Spitting is a particularly unpleasant form of offending.”

In addition to her suspended sentence, Egan was ordered to complete 25 days of rehabilitation and a 120-day alcohol abstinence monitoring program.

She was also required to pay £100 in compensation, along with McNamara, who was fined £80.
