THOUSANDS of locals and Brit tourists have been evacuated from Crete after wildfires killed at least three firefighters on the holiday hotspot.
Terrifying have ripped through the packed Greek island at the peak of the summer season.

Late on Wednesday, some 8,000 people were evacuated as massive fires threatened a resort village, deputy governor of the Rethymno region Maria Lioni said.
She said the deadly flames – which have killed three firefighters on the island so far – had reached within a kilometre of the village.

The horrifying blaze has already burned down several homes and farms – with dozens of animals feared dead, though the toll is currently unclear.

Flames in Spain and France are understood to be dying down while Greece and Turkey appear to be bearing the brunt of the soaring temperatures.

Two firefighters trapped on a mountain road near the Greek village of Krya Vrysi died as powerful winds kept changing direction.
Another emergency worker died after being found unconscious near the southern Peloponnese port town of Gytheio.
Lioni said: “It was a dark day.”
Local authorities have dedicated over 200 firefighters and 53 fire engines in the Rethymno area in southwestern Crete.

But vicious gusts of up to 102 kilometres per hour have prevented most emergency aircraft from taking on seawater to use against the infernos.
The fire front in Rethymno is said to be over 15 kilometres long.
In a separate fire on the Greek island of Lesbos, nearly 100 firefighters were deployed to tackle a sprawling blaze.
As temperatures soar past 40C, the holiday island of has also been hit by Europe’s raging infernos, forcing ten areas into evacuation.

Specialised teams have been deployed from Athens to the popular Brit holiday destination equipped with water-dropping planes, five helicopters and almost 90 firefighters.
This morning, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez cancelled the state of emergency in Madrid, while French authorities allowed 84,000 evacuees to go back home in the southwest of the country.
About two-thirds of the roughly 220,000 residents ordered to evacuate their homes since last week have now been allowed to go home.
In Suffolk, hundreds of holidaymakers were evacuated in the middle of the night as a wildfire raced towards a popular seaside resort.
Around 200 caravans were evacuated as a major incident was declared at the National Trust site Dunwich Heath.
The fire broke out just after 5.30pm yesterday evening and has been spreading rapidly overnight, with 90 firefighters scrambling to the scene.
Crews successfully evacuated Coastguard Cottages, Mount Pleasant Farm and Cliff House Holiday Park and around 200 at the holiday park in the dead of night.
There is currently an “exceptional” wildfire risk covering the UK, as 14 crews in Suffolk work to protect the buildings and control the blaze.
Meanwhile, a blaze currently four times the size of Paris threatens to flare up again in western France.
A separate wildfire – exacerbated by strong winds – has ripped through a forest in Mugla province, southwest , on Wednesday.
Five airplanes, 11 helicopters, 40 fire trucks and hundreds of personnel were dispatched to extinguish the fire, the Mugla governor’s office said.
A total of 65 residents have evacuated in Seydikemer, according to local media.
The intensive care and palliative care units at Seydikemer State Hospital, about 2.5km from the fire zone, were also evacuated.

Authorities have temporarily shut down the highway from the popular tourist hub of Fethiye to the city of Antalya amid the ensuing disaster.
