The Last Kingdom season 5 is not coming to Netflix in May 2021

The good news is we know The Last Kingdom season 5 is happening. The bad news is that we’re not going to get the season in May 2021.

We certainly have a lot of questions about what Uhtred will do next. Then there are so many other questions who were left with open storylines and questionable fates. As much as we love to hate Aelswith, is it wrong to want to see her live and continue her path of redemption?

We’re not going to get answers to questions or closure to storylines anytime soon. The Last Kingdom season 5 isn’t one of the May 2021 releases.

Netflix tends to leave 12 to 14 months between seasons at the least, but the pandemic has caused a lot of problems for filming. That means we’re waiting a little longer for our favorite period drama.

When is The Last Kingdom season 5 coming out?

Right now, The Last Kingdom season 5 is filming. We don’t know how far into filming they are, but at least we know filming is happening.

COVID protocols have caused some delays. Filming episodes is taking longer, which means it takes longer to get to post-production. The good thing about The Last Kingdom is that there aren’t the levels of VFX needed compared to shows like The Umbrella Academy and Shadow and Bone. This can help to keep post-production to a minimum.

Is it possible we’ll get it before 2021 ends? Maybe. The Last Kingdom season 5 wasn’t one of the shows mentioned when Netflix confirmed some would arrive in the last quarter of 2021, but that doesn’t mean too much. That list wasn’t exhaustive, so there is still a chance.

However, it might be worth preparing for a 2022 wait. It’ll be worth it; that we’re sure of.

We’ll know a little more by the summer, which is when production is likely to start wrapping up.
