The Crown season 5 starts filming in July 2021

Our favorite royal family on Netflix returns! The Crown will return to the set in July, as Variety confirmed.

The Crown season 5 will feature numerous new talents, including Tenet star Elizabeth Debicki starring as Princess Diana, Dominic West portraying Prince Charles, Imelda Staunton playing Queen Elizabeth, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

But, you know, we are still in a pandemic so the shoot will be under strict security and safety measures stemming from COVID-19. According to the report, the team is returning to Elstree Studios. Luckily, it looks like the situation in the United Kingdom will be more favorable, which will, hopefully, ease the imposed restrictions and restore normality a bit.

What is The Crown season 5 about?

The Netflix hit premiered in 2016 to give viewers a taste of the drama of the Royal Family in the 1940s to the early 1950s. We the marriage and the first steps of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

In The Crown season 3, we got to see what British royalty went through in the 1960s to 1970s. We saw the cast replaced with Olivia Colman and more during the third and fourth season. Finally, season 4 showed us one of the most well-known stories of the Royal family: the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, which began in 1961.

Filming on season 4 ended just before the world changed due to the pandemic. Hard work from home made it possible for The Crown to be ready for its premiere in November 2020. Such work would be rewarded not only by huge audiences but also by winning awards, including Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

The Crown season 5 will focus on the 1990s, a truly tumultuous period for the British Crown. Debicki, Staunton and others will comprise the final cast for the show, which is set to end with season 6, taking the series up to the early 2000s.

That means that we will not see the more recent history of the Crown, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as.

When is The Crown season 5 coming out?

As for the season 5 release date of The Crown, we'll likely have to wait until 2022. With production starting this summer, there's no way it'll be ready for a 2021 release date.

You can enjoy the first four seasons of The Crown on Netflix.
