Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old ran better than the bare result when beaten at Royal Ascot and he ran a fine third in a Group 3 at Glorious Goodwood last time out. His trainer is in sensational form at the moment and the combination of a drop down in class and distance should make him hard to beat.

HICKORY LAD (2.30 Ayr, nb)

Has been a model of consistency so far this season for trainer Phil Makin. He ran another cracker to finish third in the Roses Stakes at York’s Ebor meeting last time, and a reproduction of that form will put him bang there.

BELLE AMIE (6.45 Wolverhampton, treble)

Has enjoyed a fine season since joining David Simcock and produced a career best at Bath. She is just as capable on the all-weather and has been found a good opening to keep her winning run going.
