Last year two children, aged three and four, claimed the teacher at a kindergarten in Saint-Laurent-du-Var put “his fingers on their bottoms”.

One of the mothers, Laura, said her son told her there was a “secret” with the teacher.

According to Franceinfo, she said: “One evening in the shower, he told me that only the teacher could put his fingers in another little boy’s bottom and that the teacher did that to him too.”

The case was initially dismissed in October 2025 after prosecutors claimed there was “no evidence to suggest the reality” of the allegations.

But parents slammed the investigation, describing it as “botched” at a press conference on Tuesday.

One parent who filed a complaint said the police interview was rushed without building trust.

As a result the child could only say, “I don’t know anymore”, according to French media outlet bfmtv .

After two complaints the teacher was suspended from the school and a meeting was held with parents.

But another two complaints from parents of a little girl and a fourth child followed.

After the case was dismissed last year the teacher was reinstated at the school in a position with no contact to children.

The man, who had worked at the school for ten years, “fiercely contested accusations”, the prosecutor said.

Parents say their children are being treated in a psychology department at hospital where they have been diagnosed with trauma.

“These are basic, elementary investigative steps in relation to the nature of the facts: assaults and rapes of minors”, he said.

An investigating judge from the Grasse judicial court will now lead the investigation.

The probe comes amid a nationwide scandal that has seen for crimes including rape against youngsters.
