Traditional rulers from the Taraba North Senatorial District, along with the Taraba Northern Development Initiative (TNDI), have expressed dissatisfaction with the alleged inadequate performance of federal lawmakers representing the area. They accuse these lawmakers of neglecting their responsibilities and abandoning their constituents.

This criticism was voiced during a meeting held at the Lau local government council, themed “Strategic Consultation of Taraba Northern Leaders: Reawakening the Giant.”

The event gathered prominent leaders and stakeholders who voiced their frustration over what they termed a persistent failure in legislative representation.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Chief of Lau, Abubakar Danbaworo, directly challenged lawmakers from Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau to demonstrate any significant accomplishments since taking office.

“Can anyone highlight the achievements of any National Assembly member from Taraba North? They have failed to make a difference in the lives of their constituents. If they come during elections with money, accept it, but vote for the most qualified candidates,” Danbaworo stated.

Reinforcing the monarchs’ perspective, Danjuma Adams, the convener of the TNDI, lamented the lack of development in the zone, despite having produced multiple senators and members of the House of Representatives since Nigeria's return to democratic governance in 1999.

He emphasized that the region has not been able to claim any significant federal project since the current members took office.

Adams urged constituents to demand accountability and improved representation, stressing that it is time for Taraba North to move past what he referred to as “decades of legislative underperformance.”

Both the traditional rulers and the TNDI jointly called for a renewed political awareness among voters in the region, as leaders vowed to continue advocating for better governance and development.
