The Taraba State Government has expressed its readiness to support the implementation of the National Guidelines on Alternative Care for Children, reaffirming its commitment to improving child welfare across the state.
This assurance was given over the weekend by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mary Sinjen, during an advocacy visit by the Consortium for Child Protection Network Nigeria, CPNN, to the Ministry in Jalingo.
The commissioner, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Pastor Eric Juyoh Madu, emphasized the importance of adopting a child-centered approach in addressing the needs of vulnerable children.
“The Ministry’s full support in implementing the National Guidelines on Alternative Care is assured,”; she stated.
The visiting CPNN delegation, led by National Coordinator Olakunle Sanni, represented by Zonal Coordinator Yibis Sylvester, highlighted the need to prioritize the best interests of the child in all policy and care decisions.
Sanni stressed that the advocacy visit was a vital step toward strengthening child protection and alternative care systems in Taraba.
“The best interest of the child must be the primary consideration, ensuring the necessary protection and care for their well-being,”; he said.
Ambassador Boniface Koson, Taraba State Coordinator of the CPNN, lauded the ministry’s commitment, noting that the successful implementation of the national guidelines will significantly enhance the quality of life for children in the state.
