The Presidential aide spoke on Tuesday while featuring on an Arise TV programme monitored by The PUNCH.
He said, &#8220;It is very disturbing that INEC and police offices are being set ablaze in parts of the country by anarchists. I believe the law enforcement agents are sufficient enough to deal with them.
&#8220;Does anybody want to stop election in 2023? President Buhari is not interested in third term; he is not cut out for that. So, there will be election in 2023 and we will get there, God willing.&#8221;
Attacks on INEC offices especially in the South-East and in the South-South regions have been concerning of late with the chairman of the electoral commission, Mahmood Yakubu, describing the situation as a national emergency.
Some analysts have linked the attacks on INEC offices and police stations in the two geopolitical zones to the agitation for Biafra Republic by secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra led by Nnamdi Kanu, but the IPOB leader has since denied the allegation.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has explained why his principal, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) didn&#8217;t attend the burial of his late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, in Abuja on Saturday.
According to Shehu, the President stayed away from the burial because he didn&#8217;t want to inconvenient road users.
The Presidential aide spoke on Tuesday while featuring on an Arise TV programme monitored by The PUNCH.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the President was under fire last weekend when he was conspicuously absent from the burial at Attahiru.
The COAS and ten other military personnel died when a Nigerian Air Force Beachcraft 350 jet crashed near the Kaduna International Airport on Friday.
Attahiru and the other military personnel were later buried on Saturday afternoon at the National Military Cemetary in Abuja.
But while the President&#8217;s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari; governors and other dignitaries travelled from their states to attend the funeral of Attahiru and the other military personnel, Buhari was absent from the burial. He was, however, represented by the Defence Minister, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.).

Many Nigerians including an ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, had flayed the President, saying it was said that he travelled to Paris recently but did not attend the burial of the fallen heroes.
But responding to a question on the television programme on why the President was not at Attahiru&#8217;s burial, Shehu said, &#8220;I was in Europe myself on assignment and I have not spoken to the President on this but let me give you just one example: The President is somebody who is so concerned about the safety and wellbeing of ordinary Nigerians on the streets.
“Do you know why he now prays his Jumaat in the state house and doesn’t go to the national mosque? Because he doesn’t like this idea of closing roads, security men molesting people on the road for the President to have the right of way.
“These are small things for many people but they are important for President Muhammadu Buhari. So, it is a mourning situation and the President didn’t want to take away attention from that.”

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has lambasted the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), Mr Garba Sheu, over the latter&#8217;s recent comment on the resolutions of the 17 southern governors made at a meeting in Asaba Delta State.
Shehu, in a statement allegedly from the presidency, was quoted to have gone against the resolutions of the 17 southern governors.
Akeredolu, who described Shehu as an agent provocateur, said the presidential media aide was not speaking for President Buhari on the ban on open grazing which is one of the resolutions of the SGF.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, on Tuesday, title &#8216;Mr Garba Shehu: On the trail of an agent provocateur&#8217;.
The statement read, &#8220;Anyone who has been following the utterances of this man, as well as his fellow travellers on the self-deluding, mendacious but potentially dangerous itinerary to anarchy, cannot but conclude that he works, assiduously, for extraneous interests whose game plan stands at variance with the expectations of genuine lovers of peaceful coexistence among all the peoples whose ethnic extractions are indigenous to Nigeria.
&#8220;Mr Garba must disclose, this day, the real motive(s) of those he serves, definitely not the President. He cannot continue to hide under some opaque, omnibus, and dubious directives to create confusion in the polity. The easy recourse to mendacious uppity in pushing a barely disguised pernicious agendum is well understood. The declaration that the recommendations of the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, a mere political appointee like Garba Shehu, are now the “lasting solutions” which eluded all the elected representatives of the people of the Southern part of the country, exposes this man as a pitiable messenger who does not seem to understand the limits of his relevance and charge.

&#8220;Mr Garba contends that “their announcement is of questionable legality”, referring to the 17 Governors of the Southern States, but the decision of certain elements to take the ancestral lands of other people to settle their kinsmen, including the “gun-wielding “killer herdsmen” and their families, and provide “veterinary clinics, water points for animals, and facilities for herders and their families including schooling through these rehabilitated reserves” for which “the Federal Government is making far-reaching and practical changes allowing for different communities to co-exist side-by-side”, does not appear to him as a comprehensive plan for land grabbing, a precursor to internal colonialism. He wants to “revive forest reserves” but seems particularly uninterested in the current position of the same law, that he and his cohorts often misinterpret to serve parochialism and greed. Governors no longer have powers over the lands in their territories. They must take instructions from appointees of the Federal Government on such matters.
&#8220;It is superfluous, and that is being charitable, for anyone to remind us of the constitutional right of bona fide citizens “to enjoy rights and freedoms within every one of our 36 States (and FCT)-regardless of their state of birth and residence”. There has never been any contention on this provision. It is clear that Mr Garba seems to have issues understanding the difference between licentious criminality and qualified rights under our law. It is our duty to continually nudge him off his current state of cognitive dissonance. His pronouncement betrays dubiety and mischief.
&#8220;Most traditional families in Nigeria have occupations. Pastoralism is not an exception. Any ethnic group still trapped in anachronism may be assisted to embrace modernity. Dispossessing communities of their ancestral lands, encouraging denizens of the forests to overrun lands belonging to other people, and forcing alien bands of migrants on the local populace to live “side-by-side” with other communities cannot be for the purpose of animal husbandry. It raises suspicion on a grand, deliberate, persistent, and insidious design to use naked force to subjugate the real owners of the land. Mr Garba Shehu is a major supporter of the current pervasive anarchy in the land.&#8221;
The statement warned Shehu &#8220;and his cohorts&#8221; to desist from hurling insults at the elected representatives of the people, saying he &#8220;lacks the authority to make policy statements for the Federal Government, unless directed, expressly. His acts are clearly those of an agent provocateur. Other closet dreamers, aspirers to colonial fantasies, must be weaned off their delusion. &#8221;
He also declared that &#8220;no inch of the space delineated and known, currently, as South West, and indeed the whole South, will be ceded to a band of invaders masquerading as herdsmen under any guise.&#8221;

Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, last week hurled himself feet first into a dry swimming pool as he tried to object to a southern ban on open grazing.
In the television event, Mr Malami struggled to assert himself, but was painfully unprepared and incompetent.  He described the collective decision of the Southern Governors Forum (SGF) to ban the practice as “unconstitutional,” comparing it to “…as good as saying, perhaps, maybe, the northern governors coming together to say they prohibit spare parts trading in the North.”
It was a scandalous view of the notion of one Nigeria and an insult to Nigerians who live and work outside their ethnic or state origins without bringing intimidation and violence with them.
Perhaps Malami ought to have sent a knowledgeable subordinate armed with knowledge of the constitution, as he appeared to have been completely out of his depth. The AGF referred to the document but did not demonstrate that he even owns a copy.
I diagnose Malami’s condition as the Garba Shehu Syndrome.
I have never met either man.  Ever since the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) appeared to forget the meaning and substance of the presidency, however, Mr. Shehu it is who has stepped in as something of an acting president.
Where Mr. Buhari ought to speak, it is often Shehu who does.  He announces.  He declares.  He describes.  He explains.  He answers.

It is a powerful profile, and I often disagree with the spokesman, but this role, of a de facto president, has granted Shehu an inestimable uniqueness, and perhaps great envy, within the administration: the kind that would drive a desperate cabinet minister to a television studio to embarrass himself.
Malami’s mission appeared to be unclear even to Malami.  If it were to explain the constitution, he made a mess of that.  If it were to denigrate the SGF, he could not explain how the call for restructuring is invalid unless the states first “restructure.”
It is why you should never send a politician to do a professional’s job…unless you are the politician, and you are trying to advertise yourself.
“It is about constitutionality within the context of the freedom of expression enshrined in our constitution,” he stated of the ban on open grazing in the South, asking, “Can you deny the rights of a Nigerian?”
Of course not.  That was never the issue.
And then Malami stepped into it, appearing to compare coconuts and kolanuts: some nonsense about northern governors possibly banning spare part trading in the North.
Malami has made many blunders since Buhari plucked him out of professional obscurity in 2015 and installed him in the Ministry of Justice, but comparing the ‘rights’ of cattle to graze openly in the 21st century to those of humans to make a peaceful living will haunt him for the rest of his life.
						
							
								
								
									
									
								
								
								
							
						
					
This is what the Garba Shehu Syndrome is: it makes a man to destroy himself trying to justify the unjustifiable to President Buhari.
It is remarkable that within hours, it was real cattle herders—not politicians or lawyers or journalists—who provided Malami with real-time education, as the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) expressed <a href="https://dailytrust.com/breaking-miyetti-allah-backs-southern-governors-on-grazing-ban" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailytrust.com/breaking-miyetti-allah-backs-southern-governors-on-grazing-ban&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1621804171492000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGUiJ-bLZmRDOzkkqX8WAEtLWKfmQ" target="_blank">support</a> for the ban on open grazing.
At a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, MACBAN leader Sarkin Fulani confirmed that open grazing practice is unscientific, out of time and out of place, and that (eliminating) it is the answer to the farmers-herders crisis.
Jibrin said: “As a full-blooded Fulani Man, Sarkin Fulani, and Patron [of MACBAN], and concerned Fulani Leader in Nigeria, I have a free mind on anyone recommending a ban on open grazing, free movement of herders, and cattle in Nigeria because the practice is getting outdated and it is necessary for Nigeria, especially the Fulani race to study critically the traditional open grazing believing that the 21st century may never accommodate it.”
He drew attention to best international practice, declaring that Nigeria cannot continue with open grazing.  “In order to effect a change, the Fulani elites should be bold enough to come out with alternatives to open grazing and advise the Fulanis in Nigeria accordingly.”
Jibrin called for understanding of those who object to reject open grazing, and called for dialogue towards national unity.
“Nigeria must remain one entity and one Nigeria as against what is happening now,” he stressed.  “We should rely more on dialogue, and mediation with herders, Fulani leaders, traditional rulers and our governors [to] end this feud.”

Jibrin even praised the southern governors for their new policy.  “I have fully observed the feeling of many groups and individuals in Nigeria about open grazing,” he said. “There is so much condemnation from Nigerian Governors, Northern Governors, Southern Governors etc. These groups and individuals should never be condemned and must be praised for their bold comments trying to modernise and improve cattle rearing in Nigeria. Another reason why we should shun away from open grazing is the way old methods of settlements of crises between herdsmen and farmers have been abandoned…”
I do not know whether Malami took this MACBAN class well, or if he will accept treatment for his Garba Shehu Syndrome.  As a man of power, he may well feel that cattle herders have humiliated him, and seek vengeance: not on them, but on the SGF and the rational argument they make.
Last week, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu told him the governors were ready.  “Mr Malami is advised to approach the court to challenge the legality of the laws of the respective states banning open grazing and decision of the Southern Governor Forum taken in the interest of their people,” he said.  “We shall be most willing to meet him in court.”
It would be fascinating to see Malami take his immature television heroism into an actual courtroom.  But that performance, and the terrible words which came out of his mouth are a reminder of the evil that the Buhari administration has become.
But Nigeria is far bigger than any government, and particularly the kind of grotesque animal that now passes for one in Nigeria.  To that end, MACBAN’s affirmation of Nigerian unity is a lesson.
That lesson is that it is cynical governance that is the pre-eminent threat to Nigeria.  It is that threat—not each—that Nigerians must unite against, defeat, and resolve never to permit again.

An ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has threatened to start a protest in Paris, France, where Nigerian President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), travelled to on Sunday.
The convener of the #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon protests last month, said he would be forced to begin another protest, #HarassBuhariOutofParis, should the President not return to the country where he is most needed at the moment.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Buhari landed in Paris on Sunday for a four-day official visit to attend the African Finance Summit, according to presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu.
Shehu also said the summit would focus on reviewing the African economy following shocks from the coronavirus pandemic and getting relief, especially from increased debt burden on countries.
He added that the summit, to be hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France, would draw major stakeholders in the global financial institutions and some Heads of Government, who would, collectively, discuss external funding and debt treatment for Africa, and private sector reforms.
However, Omokri, in a statement titled, ‘Buhari Is Needed in Nigeria, Not France’, said the President should return to Nigeria to attend to the worsening security situation in the country.
The statement partly read, “Since the Africa-France Summit was postponed, due to COVID-19, and General Buhari was informed of it, why did he still travel to Paris? This is the question Nigerians want to be answered.

“I remind Buhari that Nigeria is drifting, and if he does not drift back to Abuja to halt the drift, I may be forced to drift to Paris to #HarassBuhariOutofParis.”
“It is clear that this is not the time for Buhari to be sneaking into Paris or London to see his doctors.
“If he is too ill to continue in office, then he should resign and let capable hands move Nigeria forward,” he added.
The President had been in London, United Kingdom, last month for over two weeks. The President had gone for medical check up while doctors were on strike back at home in Nigeria.
Buhari’s &#8216;short rest&#8217; at the Abuja House in London was, however, marred with the #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon protest organised by Omokri.
A counter-protest or a solidarity protest was soon organised in support of the Nigerian President and what could be described as an absurd drama was created.
While the #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon protesters had wanted the President to return to the country and fix health care, amongst others, the solidarity protesters believed the President had a right to seek medical attention abroad.

Omokri threatens to begin #HarassBuhariOutofParis protest in France

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, says the burglary attempt by armed robbers on the Aso Rock residence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, shows there is no security anywhere in the country and no Nigerian is safe.
Ozekhome, who described the robbery attempt as shameful and disgusting, made this known in a statement on Tuesday obtained by The PUNCH. It was titled, ‘Burglary In The Villa: When The Chicken Comes Home To Roost’.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said there was an attempt by armed robbers to burgle the residence of Gambari, early Monday.
“The Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there ‘was a foolish attempt’ to burgle his residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.
“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident,” Shehu had stated in a two-part tweet on Monday night.
The disclosure caused a stir in the country as common Nigerians wonder what becomes of their fate if the presidency, with its entire security fortress, could be invaded by armed robbers who further launched a burglary attempt.
Reacting on Tuesday, Ozekhome said, “I am not surprised to hear that the official residence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari inside Aso Villa has been burgled. It is still a wonder, indeed a miracle, for which I am grateful to God, that Nigeria herself has not still been physically abducted and kidnapped as a country, though she has since been abducted and kidnapped, literally, in terms of economy, corruption, nepotism, cronyism, prebendalism, crass tribalism and religious bigotry. Peoples Democratic Party chieftain and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Friday, lambasted the Presidency and the Catholic Priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Fr Ejike Mbaka, describing both as “blackmailers”.
Fayose also said both the Presidency and the preacher don’t deserve the attention of Nigerians.
“The Presidency and Father Mbaka are nothing but blackmailers and scammers. They don’t deserve the attention of Nigerians,” he tweeted.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Mbaka said God asked him to withdraw his support for the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and to prophesy against him.
The fiery priest had prophesied that Buhari of the All Progressives Congress would defeat ex-President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP and become President in 2015 and continued to support him at various times.
But Mbaka made a U-turn against the Buhari government recently, saying it had failed to protect lives in the country, describing the situation as devastating. He also called for the President’s resignation.
However, in a clapback, the Presidency attributed the recent outing of Mbaka to the Buhari’s decision to reject a contract request allegedly made by the cleric.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, said in a statement on Friday that though Mbaka supported Buhari in 2015 and 2019, the cleric “has made a complete U-turn, preposterously asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached”.
“Here is the point of departure: Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors. The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.
“Anyone familiar with President Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts or any other government business for that matter. He requested the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with laid down rules.”

The Presidency on Friday attributed the recent call by Father Ejike Mbaka of Adoration Ministry, Enugu on the President, Major General Buhari (retd.), to resign to the President’s decision to reject a contract request made by the cleric.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement titled ‘Father Mbaka is everything apart from what he claims to be.’
The statement read, “An outsider distilling the avalanche of verbiage, will be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka has made a complete U-Turn, preposterously asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached.
“Here is the point of departure: Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors. The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.
“Anyone familiar with President Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts or any other government business for that matter. He requested the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with laid down rules.
“Inside the Villa, discretion prevailed, that if those pictures and requests were made public, the followers will turn against the religious leader. None of it was released. Now, this is what is eating Father Mbaka.”
Recall that Mbaka recently claimed that God asked him to withdraw his support and prophesy for the President. 
He asked that the President resign honourably or be removed over the rising insecurity in the country.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has lambasted the Presidency for defending the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, and his past radical pro-Taliban comments.
The apex Christian body in the country also said non-Muslims have been the target of the minister right from his days as Chief Imam of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University mosque in Bauchi State.
CAN General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, stated this in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Friday.
Pantami has been under fire of late over past pro-Taliban comments supporting the activities of terrorist groups including Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
In audio clips that resurfaced lately, the minister who has been an Islamic scholar for about three decades also once declared that he was always happy when infidels – non-Muslims – were massacred.
Though he has since renounced the comments, blaming immaturity, many Nigerians continue to demand his sacking or resignation.
But in a statement on Thursday, presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu ruled out the possibility of the sacking of the minister when he said, “The minister has, rightly, <a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.flyingeze.com/p/presidency-didnt-stand-with-kemi-adeosun-but-quick-to-defend-pantami-nigerian-tweeps" target="_blank">apologized</a> for what he said in the early 2000s. The views were absolutely unacceptable then, and would be equally unacceptable today, were he to repeat them. Speaking with The PUNCH on Friday, the secretary of the Christian body said it was not surprising that the Presidency swiftly came out to exonerate Pantami despite his past radical views and support for terrorists.
Daramola said, “What do you expect? You think the Presidency will sack him? There is what we call corporate interest. The Presidency is protecting its interest. Didn’t the Presidency appoint Pantami in the first place?
Pantami must have been given specific instructions. Government studies the characters they put in particular positions. If you are eloquent in speaking and you can lie, you can be made minister of communications. If you are one that knows how to fight workers, you can be made minister of labour. If you are known for your academic prowess and you can manipulate the academic environment to suit government policies, they put you in education.
“So, that is what government does. Should we now expect government to say, no, we jettison him (Pantami)? No, they won’t deny him. They have their reasons for making him a minister in the first place.”
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Sunday Achi, a 24-year-old son and 400-level student of Architecture at the ATBU at the time, was strangled at the campus mosque by Muslim students over allegation that he circulated a Christian tract that contained blasphemous content.

Reacting, CAN secretary told The PUNCH that non-Muslims have been the target of Pantami’s religious fundamental views.
Daramola said, “Who are his (Pantami) target? Who are his actions targeted at? Who receives the actions and inactions of Pantami? Non-Muslims are his target.
“Has he denied ever doing it? He never denied. He said, ‘I did it’ but put a caveat there; ‘I did it when I was young.’
“He was of age at the time that Christian student was killed in Bauchi. He proclaimed fatwa on students when he was at ATBU and a Christian was <a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.flyingeze.com/p/pantami-hasnt-changed-contracted-islamic-tv-to-cover-fg-event-ozekhome" target="_blank">dragged out of his hostel and killed</a> and the minister said he didn’t know that time? Let nobody call dog monkey to us.”
Though presidential spokesman Shehu said the minister had outlived his past, Daramola, however, believed a leopard can’t change its skin. “Can a leopard change its skin?” he asked.
“If they like, they should leave him but nothing that has a beginning that does not have an end,” the CAN secretary concluded.

In the wake of the Presidency’s defence of Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, over his past radical pro-Taliban comments, a video has re-emerged on social media showing the General Officer Commanding the 7 Division, Major General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, saying that repentant Boko Haram terrorists can become Nigerian president.
According to the video obtained from Channels Television website, the army commander spoke on July 21, 2019 during an interview with journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
“Boko Haram should lay their arms unconditionally and be accepted. Opportunities are out there for them, they can be rehabilitated.
“An ex Boko Haram having laid his arms and turned away from his negativity, stands to be a president of this country; he stands to aspire to any position in this country. Why is he wasting his time when he cannot even deliver?” Biu had said.

Outraged by the supposed verdict of the Presidency, many Nigerians have since taken to social media to censure the Buhari regime over its apologist stance on Pantami despite his past escapade with terrorists.

“The Presidency was gifted a landmark opportunity to proclaim its aversion to terror. Instead, it released a statement &#8216;standing by&#8217; Pantami. This is tacit endorsement of terrorism. The government is emboldening people to go ahead and spew hate, and return years later to a pat on the back, @fisayosoyombo tweeted.
Also, journalist and researcher who has been digging into Pantami’s past radical life, David Hundeyin, exclaimed, “Your government has released an official statement saying that Isa Pantami has &#8220;apologised&#8221; for being a terror apologist and therefore it &#8220;stands behind&#8221; him. I have no words.”
“Soldiers in war front wasting their lives in the name of patriotism should be pitied really. The fight against terror will not end if it is continued in Sambisa. The real war front is Aso Rock where the real terrorists hide. Buhari open support for terrorism speaks volume,” stated another tweep, @mrfestusogun.
