At least one individual has been shot after a gunman reportedly opened fire from a rooftop in Sydney.

Authorities initiated an urgent search for the suspect after being alerted to the incident in Croydon Park, Sydney, around 7:30 PM on Sunday.

One person and several vehicles are believed to have been targeted in what has been characterized as an “active shooter situation.”

The assailant, who was observed on the roof of a restaurant, reportedly discharged four shots onto the street.

A man in his 50s was swiftly transported to Canterbury Hospital, where he received treatment for a gunshot wound, according to NewsWire.

Another individual was treated at the scene and subsequently taken to the hospital, but their condition remains unclear.

The entire area has been placed on lockdown, with residents advised to stay indoors.

Police have also cautioned drivers to seek alternative routes while they continue their search for the suspect.

NSW Police stated in a release: “A police operation is currently underway at Croydon Park following the discharge of shots.

“The area has been secured with Georges River Road closed between Croydon Avenue and Seymor Street, and Brighton Avenue closed between Georges River Road and Queensborough Road.

“Specialized resources are responding, and the public is urged to remain indoors, while motorists are advised to avoid the area.

“Further information will be provided as it becomes available.”
