Sweet Magnolias season 2 release date delayed until 2022

Sweet Magnolias became a breakout hit for Netflix when it debuted in the summer of 2020, quickly winning fans over to become one of the most talked-about new shows of the year. So it’s understandable that excitement over Sweet Magnolias season 2 is at an all-time high.

Following its debut in May 2020, Sweet Magnolias managed to secure a relatively quick renewal which was music to the ears of fans anxious for answers to the season 1 finale’s shocking cliffhangers.

While the food news is that a second season is coming, the bad news is that it seems fans are in for an extended break between seasons as it’s sadly been confirmed the season won’t be coming in 2021.

When is Sweet Magnolias season 2 filming?

First some good news! Although it’s uncertain when exactly production began on Sweet Magnolias season 2, filming has begun with production officially underway as of Spring 2021.

The start date is on pace with previous reports which suggested production was looking to begin in April 2021. While it’s unclear how far along production is on the upcoming second season, fans can rest assured that production has begun.

Now that’s the good news. The bad news is that it doesn’t appear we’ll be getting the second season in 2021 as we originally hoped.

Netflix has not confirmed when exactly Sweet Magnolias season 2 will debut on Netflix, but one thing that is certain is the second season will not be arriving in 2021.

In announcing the promotion of several cast members to series regular roles, Deadline reports production is underway with Netflix eyeing a 2022 premiere date for season 2. This news is definitely disappointing for fans as the hope had been that season 2 could release sometime in the fall of 2021 which would lessen the gap between seasons.

However, it seems due to production not beginning until Spring 2021, Netflix won’t be able to roll out the second season until a yet-to-be-determined date in 2022.

While it’s unclear when in 2022 the season might arrive, we imagine Netflix will likely look to release the show sometime in the early part of 2022 rather than making fans wait too far into the year. Given the show’s romantic vibes, a February 2022 release could be possible and there currently is not any major release scheduled for around that time of year just yet.
