Suspected armed herders reportedly kill farmers in Benue

Published on June 25, 2025 at 11:28 AM

A farmer, Alphonsis Iorbe, was reportedly killed by suspected armed herders in Tse-Kanji, a community in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack is said to have occurred on Tuesday around 1:00 p.m., while the victim was working on his farm.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared the development in a post on X on Wednesday, noting that a distress call prompted a swift deployment of security operatives to the area.

He revealed that personnel of the Nigerian Army, alongside police officers and other security agents, responded promptly to the scene.

“The farmer’s body was later recovered, photographed for record purposes, and moved to the Ayilamo Mortuary, where it is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination,”; Makama wrote.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, as part of efforts to forestall further violence in the troubled region.

Benue remains one of the states most affected by ongoing farmer-herder clashes, which continue to claim lives and disrupt rural communities.
