Just weeks after the first part of season five landed on Netflix, the streamer released a trailer for the last three episodes ever of , which are set to air on Christmas Day and the finale New Year’s Day.
The action-packed trailer gave fans some idea of what to expect and was full of familiar faces taking on the monster Vecna and the Upside Down – the mysterious, alternate dimensions that mirrors the world in Stranger Things.
But one stand out moments for die-hard fans of the series came when buddies Dustin and Steve shared some profound dialogue.
As they prepare to do battle Steve looks over at Dustin and tells him, “You die, I die,” then after a few seconds of explosive action on screen the trailer cuts back to the duo.
“You die, I die,” a determined Dustin tells Steve, as the latter nods in agreement.
Fans took that as a sign the pair would be killed off and did not want to see that happen.
“Both of you don’t die!!!” wrote one person in the trailer’s YouTube comments.
“Netflix if they die, my subscription to your service dies with them,” wrote another.
And a third commented: “NAH BRO, NO F******G CHANCE!!!”
But one fan thought the moment was a misdirect: “The ‘You die, I die’ bit between Dustin and Steve feels like a massive red herring. Someone else is going to die.”
Some of the actors themselves teased what fans could expect, including how Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) has developed new powers.
“I think that puts us on more of [an even] playing field. I’m sure that’s objectively terrifying to Vecna,” Gaten said.
Or as Mike Wheeler actor, Finn Wolfhard puts it, “We have two Elevens,” referring to the character played by Millie Bobby Brown, who has psychokinetic and telepathic abilities.
If the release of Volume One of Stranger Things’ fifth season was anything to go by, than Netflix can expect huge viewing figures for the final chapter.
The streaming site crashed minutes after the release of Volume One last month.
Fans were left up in arms as they sat in their living rooms attempting to watch the first episode of season five, when Netflix decided to go down and not work.
fans around the world rushed to social media to fume over the streaming platform and how they were left unable to watch the new season, which they had been anticipating for more than three years.
Stranger Things Volume 2’s three episodes air on Boxing and The Finale on New Year’s Eve. Each volume releases at 1 a.m GMT.
