Stop playing with fire – China urges Philippines to halt sending wrong signals to Taiwan

Published on April 30, 2025 at 10:29 AM

China has urged the Philippines to stop sending wrong signals to separatist forces seeking “Taiwan independence.’’

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said this at a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

He said this while answering questions on a Philippine media report that the Philippine government had relaxed restrictions on interactions with Taiwan officials and also allowed its officials to visit the island.

“We firmly oppose any form of official exchanges between countries having diplomatic ties with China and China’s Taiwan region.

“Stop playing with fire on the Taiwan question, and stop sending wrong signals to “Taiwan independence separatist forces.”;

“Philippines should adhere to the one-China principle”;, Fenglian said.
