The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, has encouraged Nigerians to make wise choices and take responsibility for the nation's advancement rather than blaming leaders for its difficulties.
Borno CAN Chairman, Bishop John Bogna Bakeni, issued this call in Maiduguri on Saturday, emphasizing that national renewal necessitates both accountable leadership and responsible citizenship.
He stated that the transformation of Nigeria's economic and political landscapes relies on intentional moral choices and collective actions by the citizens.
“As I mentioned in my message from the pulpit, Nigerians must make the right choices. We must hold our leaders accountable at all levels, but we must also take responsibility,” Bishop Bakeni asserted.
He further emphasized that it is insufficient to wish for a better country without consciously choosing good over evil and actively working to create it.
Bakeni pointed out that issues such as kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and corruption arise from the inability of families to instill discipline and values in their children.
“We cannot keep blaming the government alone. Parents must oversee their children's behavior and instill discipline and honesty in them. Evil flourishes when families neglect their moral responsibilities,” he cautioned.
