‘I wasn’t happy with his attitude’ – Stephen Hendry tells snooker wonderkid to change style and not follow his lead

SNOOKER icon Stephen Hendry had some words of advice for rising star Stan Moody following the 20-year-old’s run at the British Open.

While the seven-time world champ likes and sees a lot of himself in Moody’s personality, he feels he needs to improve on his mindset when things are not going as he would like.

Moody reached the British Open quarter-final for the second year running at the beginning of the month, but bowed out to World No65 Liam Highfield.

And offered constructive criticism and some words of advice to the youngster following his exit.

Speaking on WST’S Club podcast, Hendry said: “I wasn’t happy with his attitude in the match he lost to Highfield.

“I don’t know whether the speed at which Highfield was playing was getting to Moody but every time the camera went to him in his chair the body language wasn’t great.

“He’s got something about him that I like. He’s cocky, which you need, I don’t mind cocky at all but you’ve got to realise that other players are entitled to play how they want to play.

“It’s just about you and the table, forgetting what your opponent’s doing.”

Hendry also sees elements of himself in Moody, as he added: “I was the same myself.

“I turned pro very young at 16, then I’m playing against Rex Williams who was still playing.”

Similarly to Moody, the eventual King of the Crucible admitted he used to grow impatient with more defensive players, but stressed that all pros deserve respect.

Despite turning 20 this week, Moody is rising up the snooker rankings and currently sits at No39 in the world.
