Snooker icon Stephen Hendry has left fans amazed after sharing a photo of himself and RONNIE O’SULLIVAN from the early 1990s.

Captured during their first encounter, the two youthful players are dressed in tuxedos at an event.

Nearly 30 years later, they can collectively claim 14 World Championship titles, evenly split with seven each.

If the photo is indeed from 1990, Hendry would have been at the beginning of a remarkable streak, winning the competition six times in seven years.

In fact, 1991 was the only year until 1997 that he did not win, eventually achieving an incredible seven titles in the decade by 1999.

O’Sullivan would follow in his footsteps, securing the trophy in 2001, 2004, and 2008, and adding victories in 2012, 2013, 2020, and most recently in 2022.

O’Sullivan has surpassed Hendry in total titles, amassing 41 compared to Hendry's 36.

In his Instagram post accompanying the image, Hendry stated: “I found this picture and thought it would make a great throwback.”

“This was the first time I ever played against Ronnie. It was during an exhibition in Essex, probably around 1990 judging by my awful mullet 🤣

“I’m guessing he was about 14 years old at the time.”

Hendry and O’Sullivan did not meet on the professional circuit until 1993 at the Dubai Classic.

The Scotsman won that match, but just a month later, O’Sullivan avenged the defeat by beating Hendry in the UK Championship final as a 17-year-old.

He became the youngest winner of a ranking event at that moment, and in 2023, he would later claim the title for being the oldest male winner.

In their 56 recorded matches, the last of which took place in 2011, O’Sullivan emerged victorious 30 times compared to Hendry’s 21.

Thirteen of those encounters were in finals, where O’Sullivan won nine, while Hendry triumphed in eight of their 17 semifinal matchups.

Reflecting on the nostalgic photo, fans were eager to highlight the achievements of both players.

One fan commented: “Two G.O.A.T.s.”

Another remarked: “These two young lads grew up to become the greatest snooker players ever.”
