The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, SSANIP, has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to address unpaid salary arrears and other welfare issues affecting polytechnic staff across the country.

The ultimatum was issued in a communiqué following the association’s 77th General Executive Council meeting in Kano State, signed by the National President, Comrade Philip Adebanjo Ogunsipe, and the National Secretary, Comrade Shehu Nura Gaya.

The duo accused the government of failing to honour agreements and neglecting the polytechnic sector, while expressing disappointment with the government’s perceived insincerity in addressing these issues despite previous efforts to resolve them through dialogue.

According to the communiqué, their demands include the non-release of the new schemes and conditions of service, delayed constitution of the renegotiation committee for the 2010 agreement, non-release of the 2023–2025 NEEDS Assessment Fund, and non-payment of various arrears comprising promotion arrears, the 25/35 per cent salary review arrears, wage awards, as well as full implementation of the new minimum wage, among others.

SSANIP warned that failure to meet these demands within the specified timeframe (starting August 27, 2025) would lead to a nationwide shutdown of polytechnic services.

The members of the union asserted, “Based on the above, the union demands immediate action on the listed issues within 21 days beginning from 27th August, 2025, or we will be left with no option than to withdraw our services across the nation.”

Furthermore, SSANIP expressed disappointment with the government’s perceived insincerity in addressing the issues despite previous efforts to resolve them through dialogue.
