The smash-hit film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was nothing less than cinematic gold when it graced theatres everywhere with its marvelous presence. Simply a poetic coming-of-age story from start to finish, the film resonated with individuals of all ages and experiences and is, to this day, one of the Spider-Man franchise’s most successful films.

However, with all the fame and popularity the film garnered, a sequel is yet to be released. Can we expect a part two to this amazing film?

How many Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse movies are there?

As of right now, there is only one installment of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and it is currently available to stream on Hulu or Amazon Video with a premium subscription.

Is there going to be a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2?

Yes, there is!

Back in November 2019, the official Twitter for the film announced that a sequel was definitely in the works.

Though a super exciting announcement, the sequel for the film didn’t come as a surprise to anyone as the film already gained huge critical acclaim and was immediately a superhero fan favorite.

Into the Spider-Verse even went on to win many awards including the 2019 Academy Award for ‘Best Animated Feature Film’. Here’s to hoping that the sequel wins again. Perhaps, this time, Best Picture?

When is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 filming?

According to Deadline, production is currently underway and is going very smoothly despite the current global pandemic.

Nick Kondo, the lead animator for the sequel, confirmed on his Twitter that the first day of production started back in June 2020.

Based on the tweet earlier, you may have expected Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 to release on April 8, 2022; however, due to COVID-19, the film has been pushed back to a later release date.

The official Twitter account for the movie has confirmed that the new release would now be on Oct. 7, 2022, six months from its initial date.

This may come as disheartening news as the anticipation for the sequel is growing stronger each day, but the bright side is that we’ll have way more Halloween costume ideas. Maybe we can even show up to the movie theatre in our Penny Parker costumes.

When is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 coming to Netflix?

When the first film was released back in December 2018, it didn’t release on Netflix until about six months later on June 26. We predict that the same will happen with the sequel.

However, with Netflix landing a huge deal with Sony, there’s a chance that the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 will come to the streaming platform much sooner than initially anticipated, and with it, the re-release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
