The Speaker of the House of Representatives officially swore in three members on Tuesday following their success in the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025.
According to DAILY POST, these three new lawmakers are part of the five elected to occupy the vacant seats that arose after the passing of four members and the selection of Dennis Idahosa as the running mate for Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo governorship election.
The green chamber of the National Assembly experienced the loss of four members due to health issues in 2024, including Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Olaide Akinremi (Oyo), with Oriyomi Onanuga passing away in 2025.
In response to these vacancies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted bye-elections in August 2025 to fill the open seats.
Out of the five vacant positions, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured four, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won one seat.
DAILY POST reports that those sworn in on Tuesday include Omosede Igbinedion (representing Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency, Edo State), Joseph Bagudu (representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), and Mukhtar Rabiu of Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State.
