The Sokoto State Government has instructed all retired personnel, federal workers, and security officials occupying school quarters under the Ministry of Science and Technology without proper authorization to vacate the premises immediately.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa, issued this directive during an inspection of school facilities throughout the state.
He expressed concern that numerous retired teachers and non-staff individuals continue to occupy school quarters designated for active teachers, labeling this behavior as unjust and harmful to the education sector.
“It is unacceptable for retired or non-staff individuals to retain school quarters while active teachers face housing shortages. Government property is not a family inheritance,” Sifawa stated.
The Commissioner pointed out that this illegal occupation has exacerbated accommodation shortages in many schools and obstructed the government’s efforts to reform the education system.
He instructed school principals and management boards to compile lists of all unauthorized occupants and submit them to the ministry for swift action, warning that law enforcement agencies would be deployed to reclaim the quarters if the directive is disregarded.
“The government will not tolerate non-compliance with this order. Those who continue to occupy the quarters after this notice do so at their own peril,” he cautioned.
Sifawa reiterated the state government’s dedication to reinstating discipline, fairness, and accountability within educational institutions and urged those affected to vacate the properties voluntarily to prevent forceful eviction.
