Sokoto command nabs house burglars, recovers stolen valuables

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested key suspects involved in a series of house burglaries and thefts across the state capital, recovering stolen items worth millions of Naira in a renewed crackdown on domestic crime.

According to a statement issued by the Command, the operation began on May 8, 2025, around 6:00 p.m., when one Mustapha Maikano of Mana Layout reported a case of burglary at Unguwar Rogo Police Station.

Maikano told police that unknown intruders had unlawfully entered his home and carted away several household items, including an inverter freezer, an LG plasma television, a traveling bag containing personal belongings, lace fabric, Atamfa, a set of bed sheets, and a center carpet.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, officers apprehended a tricycle rider suspected to have knowledge of the crime.

The suspect later led investigators to the principal culprit, identified as Musa Isah, a resident of Tamaje Area, Sokoto.

“A search of Isah’s residence led to the recovery of all the items reported stolen by Mr. Maikano,”;; the statement read.

During the search, police officers also found a pilgrim box tagged with the name “Amina Muhammad Lawal”;; and a contact number.

Upon reaching out, Amina confirmed that her home in Sarda Quarters had been burgled on February 12, 2025, and valuables worth ₦1,531,800 stolen.

Further interrogation of the suspects led to the arrest of another accomplice, Abbas Isah, of Mabera Area, who was identified as both a collaborator and a receiver of stolen goods.

When officers searched Abbas Isah’s home, they recovered a large haul of stolen items, including eight bags of rice, a brand new Kemage KM 4000 generator, a stainless steel vacuum flask, a stabilizer, a Samsung tablet, fifteen male kaftans, an iPhone 14, a box containing 22 wrappers and five lace materials, a handbag and three women’s purses, baby clothes, and three sets of jewelry.

The suspects reportedly confessed to multiple housebreaking incidents across different locations in Sokoto.

“All suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,”;; the police said.

Commending the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, praised the diligence and professionalism of the officers involved.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperative in the fight against domestic crime.
