when 219 migrants in three dinghies arrived yesterday.

That pushed the total beyond the 65,911 recorded under during his three years in No10.

It is a bruising milestone for , who pledged to “smash the gangs”.

It also raises fresh questions over the effectiveness of Sir Keir’s one-in, one-out deal with France.

Shadow Home Secretary last night warned the numbers will keep climbing unless Britain exits the European Court of Human Rights.

He said: “As long as the ECHR sits at the heart of our asylum system, the crossings will continue.

“Keir Starmer has thrown open the border and rolled out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants.”

‘Twice as many’

A total of 1,114 dinghies have crossed the Channel under , averaging 59 illegal migrants per boat.

Vessels now carry nearly twice as many people as they did under Mr Johnson.

But the single-day record was on his watch, with 1,305 arrivals on September 3, 2022.

Last year, there were 41,472 small-boat arrivals — the second highest on record after 45,755 in to 2022.

Home Office data up to last September shows most arrivals are from Iran, then and then Iraq.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We have stopped 40,000 crossing attempts and removed or deported almost 60,000 people here illegally.”
