The family residence on Mosswood Avenue in the City of Orange was engulfed in flames at 5 PM.
According to local authorities, the sisters successfully helped their father escape the burning house uninjured, along with six other individuals who were inside.
Emergency services responded promptly, but it was too late for the sisters, who had succumbed to the flames.
Prosecutors from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office reported that the women were pronounced dead at 6:45 PM.
Heartfelt tributes have flooded social media from family and friends mourning the loss.
Pojanee, a published author, publisher, and inventor, was remembered as a “selfless community leader” by the African Immigrants Commission of New York and Connecticut.
“Pj was a dedicated community servant,” they expressed.
“We are profoundly saddened.”
Pojanee founded Brown Eyez Magazine in 2007, aiming to celebrate positive artistry and holistic health for and about African Americans.
Frantzia, a radiologic technologist at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, shared a touching Facebook post nine years before the tragic incident.
She had previously served in the Marine Corps.
Frantzia posted a photo the day after Thanksgiving with her father, captioning it “DaddysGirl.”
A cousin described the sisters as having “big hearts.”
“They were deeply devoted to their families, and this is a tragedy,” the cousin remarked.
“I can’t imagine how my aunt will cope with this; my uncle is currently in the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and may not even be aware of what has happened.”
