Shadow and Bone is almost here! The first season arrives on Netflix on Friday, April 23, 2021. With the new season getting hyped up all over the world, fans are already wondering about Shadow and Bone season 2.

Netflix commissioned the show based on the popular fantasy adventure series in February 2019, along with the news that Eric Heisserer would serve as the original series’ showrunner. The Oscar-nominated screenplay writer is known for his work on Arrival, the remake of The Thing, and Netflix’s own horror sensation, Bird Box. 

The Shadow and Bone series will adapt two of Bardugo’s novels, Shadow and Bone, and Six of Crows, in the shared universe split by a massive barrier of darkness complete with flesh-eating creatures known as The Grishaverse. The entire ordeal finished shooting in February 2020 and is finally set to arrive this spring.

According to a report from What’s on Netflix, Shadow and Bone season 2 has been ordered at Netflix. The show is not canceled, and it has been renewed for season 2. Netflix hasn’t officially announced the news, but we should find out about the new season soon.

If Shadow and Bone is renewed for season 2, the fact that it happened before the release is a good thing. If they waited months to renew the series, we could have to wait even longer for the new season.

Expect to wait at least 18 months before Shadow and Bone season 2 is released on Netflix. That’s basically how long these things take. There’s no way the new season is coming this year, and it’ll likely be late 2022 before we see the new season on Netflix.

As far as talent goes, it’s really anyone’s guess as to who will make up the cast of Shadow and Bone season 2. It will be interesting to see who among the individuals set to fill out the Netflix original series’ lineup will be left standing for the next round of episodes.

Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux, Kit Young, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Danielle Galligan, Calahan Skogman, Sujaya Dasgupta, and the rest fo the main cast could be back for season 2, should they make it out of the first season alive.

It will be interesting to see where the narrative goes in the show’s first run and how it will set things up for a follow-up should the streaming service deem it necessary.
