The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly, NEYGA, on Friday said the suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan should stop playing the victim and comply with the judgment of the Abuja Federal High Court.
It made the call in reaction to an Abuja Federal High Court judgement that held Natasha for contempt.
Justice Binta Nyako had ruled that Natasha acted contrary to her earlier ruling by publishing a satirical apology to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
She fined Natasha N5 million because her satirical apology was a mockery of the gag order.
A few months ago, Natasha had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment after a heated argument over rearrangement of sitting order on the floor of the Senate.
The Senate had suspended Natasha for six months.
To clear his name, the Senate President has instituted a legal action against Natasha.
However, the spokesman of NEYGA, Ibrahim Dan-Musa, said the suspended lawmaker should end her “media theatrics”; and adhere to the Court’s judgment that the Senate has disciplinary powers.
Dan-Musa said the ruling of Justice Nyako has vindicated Akpabio while exposing Natasha’s defiance as nothing but “shameless propaganda”; damaging Nigeria’s image.
In a statement he signed, Dan-Musa said: “The court’s judgment is crystal clear, Senate leadership acted within the law.
“Natasha must stop playing the victim, pay her fine, tender an apology and quit embarrassing Kogi Central with this endless drama.”;
NEYGA also accused Natasha for exploiting public sympathy while disregarding the judiciary’s authority.
“This isn’t about Natasha’s ego, it’s about respecting institutions. If she truly cares for her people, she’ll swallow her pride and comply,”; he said.
Dan-Musa also “saluted the judiciary”; for upholding Senate procedures, stating that: “This ruling proves Akpabio acted without malice only enforcing order. Those crying foul are enemies of democracy.”;
Sympathizing with Kogi Central’s “painful patience,”; he urged constituents to “hold Natasha accountable,”; stressing: “Leadership requires humility. Her continued defiance insults the very people she claims to serve.”;
