Seven lives lost, many injured in truck accident in Niger

A tragic auto accident has allegedly occurred on the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Niger State’s Katcha Local Government Area claiming seven lives in the state. .

It was gathered the incident occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

The auto crash was said to have struck when a truck transporting federal government grains as well as 36 male passengers traveling from Lagos to Kano crashed at Essa Community.

Confirming the crash in a statement issued by the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah said in addition to the fatalities, 16 people were injured, with 11 sustaining serious injuries and five suffering minor harm.

The DG disclosed that the injured were rushed to health centers in Badeggi and Agaie for treatment, while some were taken away by relatives.

According to him, “NSEMA personnel, along with villagers and commuters, conducted search and rescue operations.

He also attributed the cause of the accident to the poor state of the road, particularly the sections yet to be reconstructed on the Lambata-Bida axis.
