Senate probes alleged inclusion of non-indigenes in Bauchi slot for Air Force recruitment

Published on May 21, 2025 at 09:20 AM

The Nigerian Senate has begun to investigate a petition alleging the inclusion of non-indigenes as representatives of Bauchi State in the shortlist for the Nigerian Air Force’s Basic Military Training Course.

The petition, authored by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, was submitted on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central). Governor Mohammed, in the petition, expressed concerns that candidates who are not from Bauchi State were wrongly listed as indigenes, potentially denying genuine Bauchi youths the opportunity to serve in the military.

“This development is against the interest of Bauchi State,”;; the petition read, calling for an urgent review of the recruitment list.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, after receiving the petition, referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, as well as the Committee on Air Force, for thorough legislative action.

Akpabio stated, “The petition will be argued at the committee’s level,”;; directing both committees to investigate the matter and report their findings to the Senate within seven days.
