A security expert, Jonathan Onoja, has accused Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, of complicity in the worsening banditry in the state.

Speaking on a TVC News programme on Wednesday, Onoja said the governor’s recent statement that he knew where bandits reside raised concerns about his role in tackling insecurity.

He argued that as the Chief Security Officer of the state, Governor Lawal should be able to take decisive action against the criminals instead of making such remarks.

“If the governor cannot make any headway in addressing the issue of insecurity in his state, he should resign,” Onoja said.

He further recalled that a former governor had recently alleged that the policy from the Office of the National Security Adviser was to “feed and equip” bandits, a claim later dismissed by the NSA.

Onoja called for the declaration of a state of emergency in Zamfara to address the crisis, citing the Rivers State model as an example.

Another contributor on the programme, however, advocated the creation of state police, describing it as the long-term solution to insecurity at the grassroots.
