A SECRET list of nine unreleased emojis dropping this year has been unveiled with a few unusual characters heading our way.

The list includes a “pickle” to rival the cucumber and aubergine – and an eraser to signify a communication error has been made.

Although emojis were unheard of until the 90s, they are now commonly used within texts and with an estimated 10 billion of them sent globally every day.

This year’s World Emoji Day, celebrated on July 17, unveiled the new list of emojis arriving in September.

These include a cracking face, a leftward thumb sign and a right thumb sign gesture.

Others include a lighthouse, a meteor and a net with a handle.

The cracking face emoji is intended to signify when someone says “they’re fine” – when actually they’re far from it.

Recently added emojis include the “ginger”, which can reference the autumn and winter seasons or it could represent the natural spice.

The 9 new emojis arriving in September

  • A cracking face
  • A leftward thumb sign gesture (with skin tone modifier support)
  • A rightward thumb sign gesture (with skin tone modifier support)
  • A monarch butterfly (as opposed to the non-specifying butterfly)
  • A pickle – above (as opposed to a 🥒 cucumber)
  • A lighthouse
  • A meteor (as opposed to a ☄️ comet)
  • An eraser, for removing pencil markings from paper
  • A net with a handle, like those used to catch bugs

It could also be used to jokingly refer to someone with red hair.

This year is the 13th annual World Emoji Day with Japanese software developer Shigetaka Kurita credited with creating the first emoji in 1999.

and Microsoft have yet to implement support for Emoji 17.0, which included a distorted face and a ballet dancer.
