THIS is the shocking moment two schoolgirls find a newborn baby wrapped in a bin bag under a tree.

Arina Tyaglova and Masha Belyakova, both 11, discovered the wailing bundle in Aktobe, north-western Kazakhstan as cops launch a manhunt for the mother.

They first thought the cries of the abandoned child were those of a puppy or kitten.

Shocking footage showed the flailing movements inside the bag as the girls are heard saying: “Is this really a cat?”

Arina and Masha had been too scared to open the writhing bag and said “Let’s call someone. I’m scared, what is it?”.

The two girls desperately ran to find help – first alerting two girls near a block of flats before begging a local shop owner to come with them.

Another girl getting out of her car near the store raced back to the tree with them and started to open the bag.

Arina said: “I told her everything, and she came running with us, started to open the bag, and I saw a baby’s head”

“There was a second bag inside, tied in a knot, and the baby was lying on a napkin”, recalled the eleven-year-old.

“The girl called her mother, who came running to us, and they called the police and an ambulance”, she added.

Police scrambled to the scene – and later the girls were praised for saving the newborn’s life.

The baby boy, who weighed 6lb 6oz, was suffering from hypothermia.

He was immediately rushed to hospital and placed in intensive care where his condition rapidly improved.

He has been named Batyr, meaning “a strong, brave warrior”.

The mother who abandoned him has not yet been found.

Locals claimed they spotted a woman in a red dress place the bag under one tree before moving it to another and walking off.

Arina’s mother Elena said: “My daughter sent a video and said they had found a baby in the bag”.

“I was shocked. He could have suffocated.”

“Arina now says she can’t sleep well at night. She keeps seeing that bag everywhere in her dreams”, she added.

Elena said she was shocked something like this could happen in her city.

The baby will now be moved to an orphanage and likely put up for adoption.
