The father and son were part of a 20-person group of tourists from Czech Republic.

They were skiing on the Gruber Familie slope, a blue route which is usually used by beginners.

The tragedy unfolded at around 10am on Monday in Ebensee, located in Upper Austria.

Although the boy was wearing a helmet, it reportedly broke as he fell over a pile of rocks, local cops told Krone newspaper.

Due to the weather, there was reportedly a lack of snow by the side of the mountain to cushion the boy’s fall, according to Bild.

Emergency workers rushed to the scene of the accident and tried to resuciate the boy for about an hour.

But the tragic schoolboy was pronounced dead at the scene despite their efforts.

The victim’s dad reportedly drove from the Alps to the Czech Republic following the tragic ordeal to inform the boy’s mum of his tragic death.
