Ryu Jun Yeol and Sul Kyung Gu are set to star in the new thriller drama “The Rat”;; (working title)!
“The Rat”;; tells the story of Moon Jae, a reclusive novelist who loses everything to a mysterious man known only as the “Rat.”;; To take back his life, Moon Jae teams up with No Ja, a debt collector who once chased him, and together they set off in pursuit.
Based on a webtoon and inspired by a well-known Korean folktale that says, “If a mouse eats a fingernail, it becomes human,”;; the Netflix series blurs the line between reality and illusion. Moon Jae’s quiet, routine life is upended when his phone’s fingerprint recognition fails and the friend who managed his affairs disappears. With no way to prove his identity, he discovers that the Rat has stolen his name, identity and fortune. Determined to reclaim his life, Moon Jae begins tracking the elusive figure.
Ryu Jun Yeol and Sul Kyung Gu, both acclaimed for their powerful performances, lead the cast. Ryu Jun Yeol, known for his work in “Revelations,”;; “The Night Owl,”;; and “Believer,”;; plays Moon Jae, a socially anxious novelist isolated from the world. His layered, emotional portrayal captures Moon Jae’s inner struggles as his life is turned upside down overnight.
Sul Kyung Gu, recognized for his intense gaze and strong presence in “Hyper Knife”;; and “Kingmaker: The Fox of the Election,”;; plays No Ja. No Ja is a loan shark who also runs a private investigation agency and will do anything for money. After tracking Moon Jae for three years following an unpaid loan, No Ja is drawn into the case when Moon Jae reappears and asks for help to uncover the Rat’s identity.
The drama marks the first collaboration between Ryu Jun Yeol and Sul Kyung Gu. Their unexpected partnership to catch the Rat promises compelling chemistry as their characters become entangled in a web of conspiracy.
