CRISTIAN ROMERO celebrated Emiliano Martinez’s late save against Australia by bizarrely kicking his team-mate.
Martinez denied Newcastle-bound Garang Kuol to ensure Argentina beat the Aussies 2-1.
And while Nicolas Otamendi and Enzo Fernandez hugged their goalkeeper as he lay on the ground, Spurs defender Romero had other ideas.
He walked over to Martinez and instead of showering him with praise or patting him on the back, he kicked the Aston Villa shot-stopper.
But it was only a light tap and Martinez did not react as he held the ball in his grasp.
Weirdly, Romero also celebrated Argentina‘s second goal against Poland in a strange way – by kicking Fernandez on his backside.
Romero has featured in all four of Argentina’s games so far and his captain Lionel Messi picked him out for praise after they progressed to the quarter-final.
Asked who else he thought was deserving of the player of the match award, Messi answered: “Tough one, I always say we were all on top form.
“If I had to single out someone today, [Nicolas] Otamendi and Cuti Romero have been impressive.
“They have been key players in each match. Once again, their defence was impressive. But everyone deserved it because we gave it our all.

“But if I have to single someone out, they have been putting in a lot of effort to win since the start of the World Cup.”
BBC pundit Danny Murphy is also a big fan of the centre-back and suggested he is one of only two Argentina players who would get into the England team – along with Messi.
