The tournament, held in Portsmouth, requires players to open their scoring in a leg by hitting a double, in addition to the usual checkout.
However, during the opening leg of the Group A match between Burnett and Painter, Burnett did not perform well.
The Prince of Wales found himself stuck at 501 as he failed to hit a double, preventing him from scoring any points.
On the other hand, English player Painter, 58, managed to get on the scoreboard and eventually checked out on a double eight.
Despite his rocky start, WDF 1995 World Champion Burnett made a remarkable comeback to win the match 3-1.
This was despite averaging only 57.08, compared to Painter’s 66.
Importantly, the 58-year-old succeeded in half of his six checkouts.
