Residents rendered homeless as flood ravages Taraba community

Residents of Kunini community, in Lau local government council of Taraba State, are grappling with severe losses after heavy rainfall that occured in the early hours of Thursday.

The rainfall triggered flood that devastated the community, leading to the overflowing of streams and tributaries and submerged homes, destroyed farmlands, and forced scores of families to flee for safer grounds.

Eyewitnesses who spoke with DAILY POST described the flood as sudden and overwhelming.

One of the victims, Abubakar Misa, revealed that his house was completely engulfed by the rising waters.

“The situation has placed many of us in very precarious conditions. People have been taken by surprise, and several families are now scattered, looking for shelter in different places,” he said.

Misa appealed for urgent relief from government agencies, NGOs and well meaning individuals to support the displaced residents.

Another resident, Usman Isa, warned that if the water levels continue to rise, Kunini could face long term difficulties.

He called for proactive government measures, including the construction of dams or flood control structures to prevent future disasters.

Isa also urged the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency ,TSEMA, and other relevant stakeholders to carry out an immediate damage assessment and provide necessary assistance to affected families.

DAILY POST noticed that residents have already begun to relocate to higher grounds as they await urgent government intervention to address the crisis which have rendered most of them homeless.
