A RANGE Rover smashed into a historic market cross in the middle of a quiet town with one pedestrian rushed to hospital.
The reckless driver demolished the local landmark of Howden, East , just after 10.30 am today.

The drove into the medieval monument, mounting its base and causing the five-metre-high cross to topple over.
The impact of the car crash sent parts of the Grade II listed landmark flying across the ground.
Pictures of the incident show the car’s punctured tyres and bumper hanging off the front.
Emergency services raced to the scene with on pedestrian taken to hospital for further examination.

But thankfully there have been no reports of any serious injuries.
The vehicle has since been recovered and removed from the site.
Local officials are now investigating the damage and working out how best to conserve and fix their town’s important monument.
David Howard, a local independent councillor, was alerted of the incident and went to see the dramatic scene.
He said of the cross: “It’s in a real mess. It marks the centre of the town and it needs to be put back in some form – restored, repaired, replaced.
“It does look like a very, very interesting art installation at the motor show at the moment.
“In fact, it’s almost an album cover from an early 1980s rock band.”
A Humberside spokesperson said the collision said: “Officers were deployed to a reported road traffic collision in the area of Market Place, Howden, involving a car and a pedestrian this morning.
“Thankfully, nobody is believed to have sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
“The vehicle has since been recovered and the road closure that was put in place whilst emergency services attended has now reopened.”
