His heroic actions as the frantic assailant attacked indiscriminately were captured on CCTV.
Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy stated: “It is evident that the actions of the railway staff member were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved lives.”
Additionally, praises were given for his calm decision to divert the train to Huntingdon, allowing help to arrive swiftly.
The former Navy Petty Officer, who reportedly served for 17 years before becoming a train driver in 2018, was credited with preventing further violence.
Passenger Dean McFarlane, 34, shared that he had overridden the alarm to stop at a station instead of in a remote area.
He mentioned: “I spoke to the driver afterward. He said people were banging on his cab.”
“Once that emergency alarm is activated, he has only a few moments to make a split-second decision before an automatic emergency stop. His response was absolutely remarkable.”
Other tales of bravery emerged as passengers faced the terrifying situation.
It is reported that another man intervened to protect a young woman from the attacker, sustaining injuries to his head and neck.

People were shouting: “Run, run.”
He recounted to The Sun: “I was confused and thought perhaps a fight had broken out. Then, I saw an older man behind me who had been stabbed in the head and neck.”
“We were communicating while we ran to the end of the carriage.”
“I heard people saying there’s a guy stabbing everyone in sight and he might have a gun.”
“I placed my hand on a chair and felt it was wet; I looked down and it was covered in blood.”
“A man in front had been severely stabbed and was bleeding on the chairs.”
Olly ran to the back of the train, with passengers grabbing a bottle of Jack Daniel’s for self-defense.
Others locked themselves in the restroom and the buffet car, which the attacker attempted to breach.
Project manager Andy Gray, 37, stated he tried to assist a young man who had been stabbed multiple times and was covered in blood.
He explained: “A young lad, only 19 or 20, had been severely cut and stabbed.”
“He had a deep gash on his arm and several puncture wounds under his arm.”
“He somehow passed by me, panicking and saying, ‘Please, somebody
