IT’S not been a bad few years for Rachael Blackmore.

, 36, has re-written the history books after becoming the first female jockey to win the , Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle.

Last year, she from and has since got married to partner and fellow jockey Brian Hayes.

And the pair have also , just weeks after tying the knot.

Her decision to call it a day on the racecourse came as a surprise to many, but it’s clear Blackmore is more than content about life with Hayes after .

The pair have known each other for more than decade after meeting in the training yard at Carlow early in their careers.

They’ve even faced off against each other on the race track before they started dating in 2021 – the same year she started rising to fame.

She revealed the pair were together during an appearance on a podcast, when she said: “I live with two other jockeys, Patrick Mullins and Brian Hayes.

“I am going out with Brian Hayes, so there are three of us here. It is a great house to live in and it is in a really good location in Leighlinbridge in Carlow.

“We don’t talk about racing half as much as people might think. It is just a normal house when we come home.”

The pair have managed to stay out of the public eye for the most part over the years.

But after finally getting married, the smitten couple have been unable to hide their joy.

Blackmore recently spoke about her big day to Hello Magazine.

She said: “Someone asked me, was I nervous? And I was like, ‘no, I rode Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle. This is not nervous’!”

Hayes has since returned to horse racing just days after the wedding as he rode Zanoosh at the Navan Handicap Hurdle.

That was followed by on Joystick in the QuinnBet Beginners Chase and bookended by the Gormanlough Handicap Chase with Brown Boots.

And he as he said after the race: “I got married ten days now I suppose.

“Myself and Rachael got married so off the market.

“It was a lovely day. We got married on the Friday down at home in Rosscarbery, in my home place.

“We went up to Cavan then on the Monday and had a big party with all our friends and family. It was nice… it was nice just to get married finally.”

When asked about honeymoon plans, he added: “I was at Fairyhouse two days later, but we might go somewhere in June.

“We have a month off in June so we might do something then.”

But the exciting news that the pair are expecting might push those plans back.

Blackmore took to her social media this week to reveal she will soon achieve another memorable life goal when the two become parents later this year.

The history-making star shared an Instagram story with a picture of her car with a baby pram taking up most of the boot and wrote: “Love driving the Volvo XC60 #BA.

“Boot contents looking a little bit different now…”

With her racing career now behind her, Blackmore – who is said to have won around £7.8m in total prize money – is trying her luck as an author.

She recently revealed she has been working on a children’s book called Granny National.

And she’s also been for .

Hayes, meanwhile, has won a total of £2m in prize money from his career, with 121 race wins.
