Former Manchester United and Premier League star, Rio Ferdinand has said that England manager, Gareth Southgate is placing ‘blind trust’ in defender Harry Maguire.
Ferdinand believes that Maguire does not deserve a place in the England squad for the World Cup going by his lack of playing time for Manchester United this season.
The England international has been used sparingly by Erik ten Hag this season, starting just three Premier League games this term.
“Maguire’s form has gone out the window for Man Utd. He’s not in the team, he’s got an injury as well,” Rio Ferdinand told his YouTube podcast.
“Going into a tournament, I couldn’t think of another worst-case scenario. I would be concerned about that.
“It could be blind trust, I don’t know. But he [Southgate] does trust him.”
