A WOMAN has claimed she has discovered the secret to making Halloween pumpkins last even longer – and you likely already have everything you need.
Roxy shared that she takes this extra step every year, attributing it to helping her carved gourds survive until Halloween and beyond.

“This is your reminder to always bleach your pumpkins,” she wrote over the top of her TikTok video.
In the clip, she was seen placing her pumpkins in a bath filled with water, into which she squirted a generous amount of bleach.
She then used a hanger to stir the squashes around in the bubbly water.
“Keep your pumpkins fresh this season,” Roxy added in the caption.
“I do this every year; it eliminates any fungus, bugs, or dirt that causes them to rot more quickly!”
She included a disclaimer in the caption, stating: “For legal reasons, always follow the instructions for bleach measurements and do not consume bleached pumpkins.”
People quickly responded to her clever Halloween hack, with one joking: “And with 2025 prices, these need to last until 2026!!”
“Exactly! I’ll be using resin next to preserve them,” Roxy replied.
“Do it after carving, and they last longer before going moldy,” another suggested.
“You’re supposed to do it after cutting too,” a third agreed.
You also don’t need to spend much on this hack – a bottle of bleach costs around 50p at the supermarket.
Meanwhile, others took to the comments section to share their own methods for making Halloween pumpkins last longer.
“If you use white vinegar, you can still recycle them and leave them out for wildlife,” one person wrote.
“Not if you want to eat them; just rinse with a bit of bicarbonate and vinegar,” another added.
“I spray mine with white vinegar and clean them,” a third commented.
“Yeah, I’ve had multiple pumpkins last well beyond Halloween,” someone else noted.
Editor's Comment on Halloween
WHILE some may be waiting for Mariah Carey to gradually reappear, I couldn’t care less that Christmas is less than 100 days away.
Has everyone forgotten that there are less than 50 sleeps until the most wonderful holiday of the year?
I have long preferred Halloween over Christmas and spend most of the year lamenting the end of the spooky season.
Not that I don’t find ways to incorporate Halloween into my year.
In April, I celebrated the halfway point to the best day of the year with a ‘half-o-ween’ picnic in a cemetery (where else?). Come July, I needed my fix again and hosted a ‘Summerween’ barbecue complete with watermelon carving and Piña Ghoul-adas.
Christmas enthusiasts are often horrified by my indifference towards the snowy season, but for me, December is just filled with stress and overspending.
I don’t know about you, but wracking my brain for bigger and better gift ideas and spending four times the usual amount at the supermarket is not my idea of fun.
With Halloween, there is no pressure to spend. Homemade costumes often surpass those bought in stores, and when it comes to decorations, what could be better than a carved pumpkin that can be achieved for just pennies?
In January, kids return to school bragging about what Santa brought them, all hoping to outdo one another, but November 1st tells a different story.
Trick-or-treating is fair for all. Unless you’re bribing the neighbors, every child receives the same treats, and best of all, it's free, eliminating any playground bragging rights.
Above all, I cherish the chaos over curation when it comes to
