The Island Echo reported that two of the guards were taken to the hospital after the attack inside the prison.

It is believed that the officers were assaulted by the inmate in the Inpatient Unit located on the Albany site.

The Ministry of Justice condemned the attacks on staff as “cowardly and unacceptable.”

A spokesperson stated: “Attacks on our staff are cowardly and unacceptable, which is why we advocate for the strongest possible punishments.”
