Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said the decision of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to look for a political platform to birth his presidency is not a “crime in Nigeria.”

Lamido said Atiku might not have found a platform that would offer him fairness and openness in the process of picking a presidential ticket.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former governor said politicians have been crossing between parties over the past 20 years.

He said: “There are people whose personal aspirations is to run for political office, it’s different being PDP, APC, or any other platform.

“It happened in 2014 when a number of people left the PDP to APC as a platform.

“I think Atiku wants to run for the presidency and he has not seen the fairness and openness to sincerely pick the ticket, otherwise he looks for another platform.

“Looking for another platform is not a crime, in the last 20 years, people have been jumping looking for platforms.

“For instance, Ortom left the party in 2014 and ran under APC, Ortom was PDP Minister, NEC member, and he left the party because he couldn’t get the platform.

“There are people who are pursuing a platform and are different from being members of the party.”

Atiku recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the opposition coalition.

In June, the opposition coalition adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

There is speculation that Atiku may run for the presidency on the platform of ADC.
