However, as he sprinted towards the corner flag to celebrate, he collided with teammate Lucas Rosa, who may have been a bit too exuberant.

Klaassen immediately touched his forehead in pain as more teammates rushed to congratulate him.

Shortly after, blood was visible trickling down his left eyebrow while he raised both arms in triumph towards the Ajax supporters.

Fortunately for the Dutch midfielder, the medical team quickly attended to him, and he was cleared to continue until he was substituted by Kian Fitz-Jim in the 67th minute.

Teammate Jorthy Mokio added a second goal in the 94th minute, securing a crucial three points for Ajax in the derby.

Although Klaassen had already been substituted, he ran back onto the field to celebrate the decisive goal.

One fan remarked on X: “De Klassieker isn't complete without a bloody Klaassen, by the way.”

Klaassen honed his skills in Ajax's youth system before advancing to the senior team, where he made over 100 appearances from 2011 to 2017.

He then signed with Everton on a five-year contract worth £23.6 million, but he spent only one season there before being transferred to Werder Bremen.

Klaassen, who has scored 10 goals in 41 appearances for Everton, also had a later stint at another club.

Ajax currently sits in third place in the Eredivisie, trailing the leaders by 14 points.
