The Premier League has released a statement, explaining why Evanilson’s goal against Arsenal was allowed to stand, as Bournemouth recorded a 2-1 win at the Emirates on Saturday.
Declan Rice had given them the Gunners the lead in the first half.
But Dean Huijsen equalized for the Cherries in the 67th minute, before Evanilson bundled the ball home from close range eight minutes later.
The ball appeared to have come off Evanilson’s elbow on replay, but the goal stood following a lengthy VAR review.
The Premier League posted on X: “The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR â with no conclusive evidence that Evanilson handled the ball before scoring.”;
Former Liverpool midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, said on Sky Sports that the right call was made.
“Is there enough evidence to overturn that? I would say absolutely not,”; Redknapp said.
