ICONIC Premier League boss Phil Brown is in line to take over at a struggling non-league club, according to reports.

Sports have taken the decision to sack joint-managers Michael Gash and Luke Steele after the club was knocked out of the Northants Senior Cup against Wellingborough Town on Tuesday.

A statement from chairman, Tim Woodward, on Wednesday morning said: “Peterborough Sports FC can confirm that managers Michael Gash and Luke Steele have been relieved of their managerial duties with immediate effect.

“This has been a very difficult decision, and one not taken lightly…

“On behalf of everyone at Peterborough Sports FC, we would like to sincerely thank them for their hard work and dedication, and we wish them every success in the future.”

The announcement concluded by saying the club would appoint a new manager in due course.

And the coach who has been tipped for the job is ex-Prem boss Brown.

Brown, 66, famously berated his players at half-time during a Boxing Day clash against in 2008 with the Tigers 4-0 down.

Wearing his instantly-recognisable black trench coat and earpiece combo, Brown marched his players over in front of the 3,000 travelling away fans and sat them down in a circle on the pitch.

He then proceeded to rip into his players – who up to that point were sitting an unbelievable sixth in the clubs first ever Premier League season – for a minute and a half before allowing them back into the changing room.

After leaving Hull, Brown has worked for the likes of Preston, Southend, Swindon and Barrow before his most recent job with Kidderminster Harriers ended in May of this year.

But according to the Peterborough Telegraph , Sports want to bring Brown in to help get their season back on track.

They have suffered a nightmare start to the season after winning just one out of their opening eight league games.

Sports are rock bottom of the National League North, with just four points.

Former managers Gash and Steele had signed two-year contracts in August after a record points tally saw them finish 12th in the division last season.

But they are now threatened by relegation down to the Premier Division Central, where they last played in 2022.
