MANCHESTER CITY hero Edin Dzeko has put pen to paper on a deal with Shalke.

, 39, could be set for his last contract following a celebrated 23-year career that saw him stand out in the Premier League.

The striker joined the fallen German giants, who now play in the second division, from Fiorentina following an agreement that ties him to the Gelsenkirchen until the end of the season.

And Bundesliga 2 leaders suggested the Bosnia & Herzegovina international made the decision to return to Germany believing it will secure a spot in his national team which is bidding for a place in this summer’s .

Dzeko said: “From the moment there was interest, I took a very close look at and watched several matches.

“My discussions with the club, with head coach Miron Muslic and, of course, with Nikola Katic among others, were very positive.

“It’s impressive to see how the team has developed this season after some difficult years.

“Now I want to give everything so that we can be successful together in the second half of the campaign. I’m really looking forward to my first home match at a sold-out VELTINS-Arena.”

Dzeko is back in Germany after a 15-year absence and will be hoping to relive one of the greatest periods of his career.

The centre-forward burst onto the scene during a four-year stint with Wolfsburg where he amassed a total of 85 goals and 35 assists in 142 appearances.

That is where the Bosnian won the Bundesliga in 2009, two years before moving to .

Dzeko became one of City’s most established players as he won two Premier League titles as well as an FA Cup and League Cup during his five-year spell at the Etihad.

After 72 goals and 28 assists in 189 appearances across all competitions, the forward left Man City in 2016 for following an impressive season-long loan stint in the Italian capital.

Even though he didn’t win anything with the Giallorossi, he still amassed an impressive 119 goals and 54 assists in 260 appearances.

That led to a move to in 2021 where he won the Coppa Italia twice and was part of the team that made it to the Champions League final in 2023 when they lost to his former club City.

After two years with Inter – where he registered 31 goals and 15 assists in 101 appearances – Dzeko underwent brief spells with Fenerbahce and Fiorentina before signing with Schalke.
