BRAD FRIEDEL has joined a consortium that is attempting to take over Shrewsbury Town.

The iconic American goalkeeper made 450 appearances in the Premier League between 1997 and retiring in 2015.

, 55, played for the likes of Liverpool, Blackburn, and in England’s top flight.

He is now taking an interest in England’s lower leagues and more specifically .

He has joined a consortium being led by American businessman Scott Davidson in taking over .

The club have confirmed the move with a statement and revealed that Friedel would have an active role as a director.

A statement read: “Shrewsbury Town can confirm the American consortium seeking to acquire the club is being led by businessman Scott Davidson.

“Scott will be joined by former US International and ex-Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel who will become a director, subject to IFR approval.

“A businessman from Miami, Scott brings significant experience across financial services, investment, corporate leadership and real estate, alongside more than four decades of involvement in education and football.

“He also has direct experience of football club ownership and governance in the UK after becoming a director and the majority shareholder of Spartans Football Club in Edinburgh in July 2021.
